In this course, the basic concepts on phase behavior of petroleum fluids will be reviewed and students will also get hands on experience using commercial fluid modelling packages. At the end of the training attendees will be able to:
- Characterize the heavy components of the petroleum fluids
- Match experimental PVT data (CCE,CVD,D.L, Saturation Pressure, Swelling Test etc.) through regression and tuning.
- Model a slim tube experiment and determine MMP
- Perform multiphase equilibrium calculations
- Generate and analyze phase envelopes of reservoir fluids
- Create fluid model for black oil, compositional and thermal numerical simulation

Description
In this course, we will review the simplest one-dimensional flow equations for horizontal flow for a two phase fluid. Course contents also entails:
- Diffusivity equation and coupled partial non linear differential equations
- Taylor series and finite difference formulation
- Implicit and explicit formulations for 1-D flow

Description
This course presents the concepts and hands on practice for miscible and immiscible CO2 injection ,WAG and smart water injection for EOR. A simplistic approach will be used that involves matching laboratory core experimental data for different miscibility situations and ion exchange. Underlying principles of wettability alteration applicable to smart water injection will be also presented. Prerequisites for this course are Introduction to phase behavior of petroleum reservoir fluids and Introduction to numerical simulation.

Roger Sakatch
Reservoir Engineering Advisor

Mohammed Taleb-Berrouane, PhD
Hydrogen Safety Consultant
Mohammed is a technical safety & asset integrity expert with over 10 years of field and training experience in the oil and gas industry. He managed and collaborated on several international projects in North America, UK, China, and Africa. His academic background spans from chemical and process engineering to safety, asset integrity and risk assessment. In addition to his consulting and advisory services to the industry, he is actively involved in teaching and mentoring at the Centre for Risk, Integrity and Safe Engineering (C-RISE) since 2015. He is a Sessional Instructor at Memorial University – Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science since 2018.
Richard Ebisike
Drilling Engineering Advisor
Richard has an extensive background of over 25 years in the oil and gas industry with experiences spanning field services, well life cycle engineering and construction (including field supervisory roles), contract management, business planning and HSSE management and leadership. Prior to joining Shell, he worked for Schlumberger as a field engineer. While in Shell, he worked in Nigeria and Shell Malaysia E&P where he worked as an expatriate senior well engineer for five years. In many roles, Richard have provided leadership in HSSE, quality well designs, performance improvement and capital efficiency, and have been accountable for assurance on quality and compliance to group global standards. He has co-authored a couple of SPE papers, was SPE technical paper reviewer and chaired several technical paper presentation sessions at SPE conferences.
Kent Peters
Production Engineering Advisor
Kent has 35 years of broad oil and gas experience of proven track record with a focus on production and development engineering of adding profitable production and reserves. His experience includes a dozen years of field based experience (in various locations across Alberta and Saskatchewan) with a focus on safety performance, operational results and cost reductions. In the later part of his career, he focused on evaluation, planning and execution of both new pool and existing pool development in both conventional and unconventional reservoirs. Kent is very familiar with evaluation and design of all forms of artificial lift and he is able to provide designs, comparisons and economic evaluations of various designs (using Prosper modelling). Additionally, due to his wealth of experience, Kent can provide a recommendation that balances practicality and economics.
Jessica Idiodemise
Industry Consultant
Jessica is a value-driven subsurface expert with over 12 years experience in the oil and gas industry acquired across 3 continents. She has previous experience from Petroleum Engineering Consulting and producing companies like ExxonMobil, Chevron and Statoil (Equinor). She is experienced in Reservoir Simulation, Green/Brown Field Development, Reservoir Management and Full Field Development Planning etc. She has broad educational background spanning from Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering and Project Development to Digital Electronics and Computer Engineering. Jessica is an Agile Reservoir Engineer who is expert in working to simplify, clarify and achieve outcomes while aligning projects with strategic business goals. She is skilled in simplifying technical knowledge to diverse audience through effective communication. Her main skills are problem-solving, strategic thinking and analytical evaluation. Jessica has a strong personal initiative and ability to deliver high quality results.
Cleverson Esene PhD
Reservoir Simulation Expert
Cleverson is a highly skilled reservoir simulation engineer with vast exposure in reservoir simulation software packages. His academic background spans from mechanical to petroleum engineering where his exceptional mathematical capabilities gives him an extra edge in critical reasoning. He has worked in Nigeria, Abu Dhabi and Canada and in his current role, he is heavily involved in the full field development planning for the Arzarnah Oil field located in the UAE. He is an expert in Eclipse, Petrel-RE, CMG, TNav, Prosper and majority of fluid modelling software packages. Cleverson has a strong desire to always mentor young professionals and has since identified teaching as his greatest skill.
